The Taubman technique can be used to prevent pianists and other musicians from the pain and agony created by playing the instrument over a long period of time. Many musicians suffer from repetitive injuries due to the improper alignment of the hands, wrists, and arms while playing.
The Taubman approach is to align the body correctly when playing so as to prevent injury and muscle fatigue. The idea is to coordinate motion so that the entire body assists in playing the instrument, rather that just using one’s hands. Avoiding awkward movements will also reduce the stress on those muscles and eliminate the repetitive injury.
