What are the medical cures for achillies tendonitis?

I suffer from achillies tendonitis – which is extreamly painful and affects my mobility. Can anyone tell me of any effective medical procedure that will either cure or at least allieviate this condition?

Thanks

  1. Ice the affected area 20 minutes at a time every several hours for at least the first 24-48 hours. Wrap ice in a towel to protect your skin. Change to heat treatments for the next several days.

Elevate and immobilize the affected extremity.

Use compression with Ace bandages to reduce swelling. Crutches may be helpful.

Begin an exercise program to build muscle strength and range of motion with a physical therapist after the acute phase.

  2. Tough problem. It should heal up–eventually-if you can relieve the mechanical stress on the tendon. Start with a lift in the heel of your shoe, and take anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen, and no running or jumping. If it does not start improving in a couple of weeks it would be worth seeing an orthopedist.

  3. SINCE THIS LARGE TENDON HOLDS THE WHOLE ANATOMY IS REALLY DIFFICULT. IF THERE IS PARTIAL TEAR TRY NOT TO WALK TO AVOID COMPLETE TEAR SINCE EDEMA ALREADY EXISTS. ANTI INFLAMMATORY AND MUSCULOSQUELETON RELAXANT IS RECOMMENDED.
