Patient Education Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Repair

www.preop.com Patient ED @ 617-379-1582 INFO Your doctor has recommended that you undergo hand surgery to treat carpal tunnel syndrome. But what exactly is carpal tunnel syndrome? The median nerve, which carries sensation to the thumb and first three fingers, passes through a natural passageway in the wrist. This opening – called the carpal tunnel is formed by arch-shaped wrist bones and a connecting ligament. Various conditions, such as pregnancy, injury, arthritis and changes in the tendons caused by repetitive motion can crowd the already narrow tunnel, putting pressure on the nerve. This added pressure can cause a tingling sensation in the fingers and the thumb and may even lead to numbness, pain and restricted movement. This combination of symptoms is called the carpal tunnel syndrome.

  1. uh, my hand doesnt hurt, but my parents say i have this, my arm hurts more ords the middle between the elbow and hand.. what is that?

  2. is it broken? lol maybe growing pains depending on your age i had that as a kid sometimes my entire body hurt because my bones, joints, muscles were expanding, but meh im no fuckin surgeon, make sure your arm isnt broken you will smack your forehead so hard you’ll have a hurt head too 😛

  3. I’ve just have mine done on both hands, one week ago . No more dead hands at night. Hope it stays that way! I’d have thought medical insurance would cover it. I’m still waiting to see if my AIG does.

  4. I work using my hands a lot, I play guitar a lot and go to the gym regulargy, it’s been about 3 months since hand started hurting, it wont stop, I thought it would get better by now….specially in the mornings it’s freaking painful!

  5. yea same here, i used to play guitar, consols, typing and work with my hands alot now i feel like choping my hand off, especially in the mornings. i feel your pain.

  6. The inside of my hand and sometimes my forearm feels like its on fire, but dosen’t effect what i do just very annoying. Its been like this for 7 months is it carpal tunnel.

  7. how do u feel now?i just had mine done a week ago only one hand now do u think in a week or two i can do the athere?

  8. I had both my carpals done. My surgeon said it only affects the hand. The forearm sounds like s/thing different. Get it looked at. Cheers.

  9. 7 weeks. Great. Scarring almost gone. Only a couple of twinges. Don’t sweat the awful looking wound. The red line of skin under the top scar is new skin forming, and quite firm. I cut all the dead top skin off after 10 days…yuk. Still missing some strength in hands. Hands do assume an overpercentage of ones total being. Life’s returned to almost normal. I’m a mechanic, and can lift heavy parts. I worried a bit too much. You know…little twinge.. omigod the op was a failure. Good luck.

  10. maybe lay off the heavier stuff first like heavy weights for wrist curls etc at the gym. better quitting that than guitar!

  11. I did quit lifting weights and anything heavy, and even slowed on the guitar, it has gotten better somewhat

  12. I’ve had it for 2 years now…don’t have money to get sugary(no insure) I do see an acupuncturist, and he recommend not eating Red meat, and eating Fish/shellfish. The omega3 really helps alot! most of the time the pain is gone. Its only when I eat red meat does the pain come back FYI he has a PHD, and a Masters.

  13. Carpal Tunnel stems from the neck…why does no one observe this? Start some relatxation techniques…strech out your shoulders, neck, AND forearms.

  14. I’ve just been diagnosed with CT and the pain is unbearable at times. Icing my hand and wrist helps a bit. I want to know from others who have CT what works for them, and how they go about doing daily tasks because even writing, showering, and sleeping are hard at this point.

  15. Hey guys, I think I have CTS in my pinky finger, because there is a constant tingling sensation in it, and it’s been going on for the last 5 days. It’s not painful though, but I’m just wondering what to do.

  16. I used to have arthritis pain all throughout my body, had pain for years and years, not until a friend of mine told me about an all natural, little known protein, did my pain go away.
