Effect of Tobacco Use On Tendonitis Recovery Time

Here is  very interesting question from one of our readers.

I’ve been diagnosed with a severe case of tendonitis  with months of recovery.  Every doc asked if I smoked or used tobacco (I don’t) when discussing recovery time. Can someone explain the relationship between tobacco use and tendonitis recovery? (beyond merely answering “it takes longer to recover”)

What is the best way to treat tendonitis?

I have tendonitis in my elbow. The pain extends to my upper arm. I do circuit training 3 times per week. I saw a doctor who advised me to stop all upper body equipment until the tendonitis was gone then add one machine back each week. The problem is my tendonitis has never completely healed. It hurts whether or not I have exercised. I take Advil but it gives me very little relief.

If I do my upper body exercises when the pain isn’t especially severe am I doing further damage to my arm?

Tendonitis and Exercise

How do I reduce and/or eliminate pain from tendonitis without stopping my workouts?

I have tendonitis (or so my doctor has concluded) in my right lower leg. I am a newly avid runner (three times a week, 2.25 miles or more each plus at least one or two other workouts). I don’t want to stop working out, and I don’t want to permanently seriously injure myself. Any stretches/strengthening/other ideas are GREATLY appreciated.
